Burntwood Action Group housing plans update PDF Print E-mail

Burntwood Action Group ("BAG"), a group that campaigns against proposed housing development on green belt land, has published further views on Lichfield District Council's Local Development Framework.

BAG recently split from an alliance of similar groups that cover all of the Council's regions due to differences in opinion about how the alliance should be run. It still, however, co-operates with Burntwood & Hammerwich Action Group ("BHAG"), itself part of Hammerwich Environment Group.

New Morrisons - Old Problems PDF Print E-mail

Have you been to the recently re-furbished Morrisons yet? Increased floor space, more spacious layout, extra products and the same low prices (I've not done a full comparison, but you get the idea. It really is quite a nice place to shop. However, it still suffers from the same problems that will always make me go to Tescos Metro, Co-op or Spar if I'm only buying a few things.

You'd think, after they'd spent all that money on the building they'd spend a little bit of money on curing what was always the biggest bugbear before the refurb; the amount of time it takes to get through the checkout.

There's never enough staff on the checkout meaning there's always a queue. And that turns what should be a 5 minute shop into a 15 minute shop. It might not seem like a huge difference but it's enough for me to prefer Tescos, which is immediately next door, unless I'm doing a large weekly shop.

Admittedly, at the moment, the self-scanning checkouts are usually free and, therefore, quick. But that's only because they're new and shoppers are going to take a short while to get comfortable with them. But once that uncertainty has worn off and more people use the self-scan tills will Morrisons reduce the number of staff on the normal checkouts?
