Bleak House Wind Farm view from BurntwoodA planning application by Harworth Power Ltd that sought permission from Cannock Chase Council to build three wind turbines has been withdrawn.

The energy company has notified the Council that it has withdrawn the application for the former Bleak House opencast mining site between Heath Hayes and Chase Terrace with immediate effect.

The proposed development had attracted protests from local residents group Bleakhouse Wind Farm Action Group and support from Friends of the Earth.

A wind farm development on the site may still go ahead under an agreement between Howarth Power and Peel Holdings (Energy) Limited. The agreement allows Peel Energy to seek planning permission for wind farm devleopments on land owned by UK Coal. Peel Energy has confirmed that it is likely to submit an amended application on the site following further environmental surveys.
