About Burntwood - History
Sunday, 31 January 2010 19:03
The Nag's Head on Rugeley Road, in an area of Burntwood known as Fulfen, is claimed by some to be one of the oldest public houses in Great Britain. Some sources date it back to the 11th Century and it may be listed in the Doomsday Book. Documentary records show it between 1775 and 1799. In the early 1800 it had a set of stocks set up close by. It is believed the Dr Samuel Johnson drank there whilst writing his dictionary.

The pub is currently operated by Spirit Group under its Chef & Brewer group. In 2007 it underwent a major refurbishment, re-opening in the October.
