Police were called after trouble at a non-league football match in Burntwood.

The incident happened following the Evo-Stik Premier League fixture between Chasetown FC and FC United of Manchester on Saturday (January 21).

Trouble broke out in the bar of the Scholars Ground clubhouse following an argument between supporters.

“Police were called to reports of a disturbance in the bar area of Chasetown Football Club just after 5pm on Saturday,” a Staffordshire Police spokesperson confirmed. “Officers attended and spoke to those involved.

“No complaints were made and no one was arrested. Officers dispersed the group and they left the location.”

Chasetown FC declined to comment pending an internal investigation into the matter – which led to the bar being closed – but FC United of Manchester spokesperson Andy Walker said: “I wasn’t in the bar immediately after the game so didn’t witness any trouble.

“After consulting with other club officials, I gather that the stewards had things under control very quickly

“The identity of the individuals concerned, and whether they were even FC United fans, is I understand a matter of some doubt and has yet to be confirmed.

“Although the police were called, I understand that no arrests were made.”

Saw the violence for myself, disgusting! Took my son to the game and were in the bar waiting for a lift home when all hell broke loose. Lots of people gettig hit with bottles and innocent parties injured, luckily only minor. Saw FC United supporters kicking off between themselves and raiding the bar for more ammo. Police moved in, saw the violence and backed off waiting for reinforcements……useless. Witnessed at least 3 people who had been glassed. As a Chasetown fan, will not want to welcome FC back to our ground….Shame on you United.

Have your say!

I'm sure we don't really need to tell you but please, keep it civil and healthy.
