Chance for Lichfield and Burntwood diners to try something new

Oct 27, 2011 by Ross

Diners in Lichfield and Burntwood are being encouraged to become more adventurous with their choice of food.

A new menu is being launched at the Holly Bush in Little Hay and the Nags Head in Burntwood after a survey found that people were keen to expand the types of meals they eat.

The initiative is being spearheaded by award-winning food writer Ruth Watson and pub restaurant operator Chef & Brewer.

The new menu includes scallops on black pudding and a venison pie plus a game-themed dishes throughout the company’s Game Festival which runs until November 20.

Ruth, who was also a presenter of TV’s Hotel Inspector, said: “Nobody should be judged on the kind of food they eat but grilled bacon is so much healthier than fried bacon and a wild boar burger is not only much leaner and lower in fat than a traditional high street beef burger, but it also tastes better.”

Paul Farr, head of food at Chef & Brewer, added: “People seem to have a strong idea of what food is classed as posh and which foods are not.

“Food is completely subjective and everyone will have different tastes but people should not be put off trying different foods regardless of whether it’s seen as upmarket.”

  1. Nice idea, although our experiences at the Nag’s Head have been mixed. A while ago we went to what was advertised as their Fish Night (supposedly every Friday). When we asked what fish spoecials were on, the waitress didn’t know. When she came back, she told us there was Thai Red Snapper (on the standard menu anyway) and Vegetarian Fish (i.e. not fish at all!).

We haven’t been back since, but possibly the new menu may entice us to give them another go…

Have your say!

I'm sure we don't really need to tell you but please, keep it civil and healthy.
