The former Hammerwich Railway Station has been remembered on a new information post.

Members of the South Staffs Rail Group funded the new post after being given permission by the parish council and local landowner.

A spokesperson explained why they decided to commemorate the site:

“There was northing to say it was once a busy local station on the South Staffordshire Line, only an old footbridge and railway track.

“We hope people visiting the area all just out for a walk, will stumble upon the railway station and release how important the line once was connected to the local heritage of Hammerwich.”

Passenger services along the line were axed as part of the Beeching review in 1965, but it remained in use as a freight route into the 1980s.

Have your say!

I'm sure we don't really need to tell you but please, keep it civil and healthy.
